Description
This bundle includes resources that help teach students the difference between summarizing fiction stories and nonfiction texts. I use the "Somebody, Wanted, But, So, Then," method for fiction and main idea and three key details for nonfiction. Includes...
1. A mini "fill-in-the-blank" anchor chart for students to take notes on. My fifth grade students put these in their interactive notebooks, filled out the notes during whole group instruction, and used them as a resource to remember when to use SWBST and when to use Main Idea and Details to summarize.
2. Two graphic organizers for students to organize information they want to use in their summary. One for fiction (SWBST) and one for nonfiction (Main Idea and Key Details).
3. Two paragraph frames for students to fill in using any text. Helps students practice the format of a strong summary paragraph before writing it entirely on their own. A great way to differentiate and scaffold instruction for students who need a bit extra support with writing summaries!
