Description

This is a partner game that was designed to reinforce students' understanding of complete subjects and complete predicates.

This game contains 36 cards. There are 9 sets of sentences within the entire game. For example, one set of sentences look like this:

  1. What is the subject in the following sentence? The hungry frog reaches for the fly.
  2. What is the predicate in the following sentence? The hungry frog reaches for the fly.
  3. The subject is: The hungry frog
  4. The predicate is: reaches for the fly

I also included a worksheet. I begin this lesson with a quick review of subjects and predicates. Then I draw names to determine partners. The partners have to complete the worksheet BEFORE they begin playing the game. In order to complete the worksheet, students need to read the sentences (which are the same sentence that are on the game cards), and they underline the subject once and they underline the predicate twice.

It includes 36 game pieces (18 matches) and directions!

It comes in two formats: print and digital. Choose the format that is best for your students!

  1. Teachers who choose the traditional print format will print a set of cards for each small group. Students will cut apart the cards, turn them facedown, and then take turns trying to uncover matches. When all of the cards have been matched, students count their cards to determine the winner.
  2. The newer digital format is an Easel Activity. It is set up to be a game that students can play individually or with a partner. Students are presented with a sentence and are asked to identify the subject or the predicate. Students must find the matching card that correctly answers the question.
