Description

As a middle school teacher, I used to dread taking days off. After continuously getting reports of bad/disrespectful behavior from substitutes, I knew I had to do something. I came up with a letter writing assignment. Students reflect on the previous day(s) by writing letters to the substitute, their parents/guardians, and my building principal. Once a class has to complete this assignment, the next time you are out, you won't have to worry!

The letters teach accountability because it's assigned to the entire class (unless theres only one or two specific issues). My students not only had to reflect on the behavior, they also sharpen their writing skills.
