Student Loan Interest-Middle School Introduction
Description
A great way to introduce student loan interest to middle schoolers, all while reinforcing basic math skills! This lesson starts with a video showing a major pitfall of student loans, slides into student "votes" to gain interest, distinguishes between compound and simple interest, and then dives in to working with simple interest. These slides are created for a Smart Board (pen) and allow opportunities to use the Pear Deck extension for Slides. Students also practice using Google Sheets as a calculator. This product includes four files: Google Slides lesson, Google Sheets practice document, Google Sheets answer key, and a Google Sheets amortization table to show how loans really work (and how they differ from basic simple interest calculations). It is set up to allow for modification wherever you see fit.
