Student Conference Notes Tracker

I created this grid after trying to juggle all of my quick 1:1 conferences with students. My school requires that I take anecdotal notes on students, and this is a great place to record and track them. This weekly grid helped me see which students I had met with during that week, and which ones I still needed to conference with. Since I may have an impromptu meeting with a student or student absences, I like the open grid rather than the set schedule.

Directions for use:
1.Circle at the top which subject you are conducting conferences on (Reading or Writing).
2.Write your kiddo's names on the line at the top of each grid.
3. Make a master copy so you don't have to write these names over every week.
4. If you have 25 students, try to have a goal of meeting with 5 per day.
5. Record notes during the course of a week.
6. Reflect at the end of the week.

More tips:
As I meet with students, I quickly jot down a TP (Teaching Point - something the student and teacher discussed that the student could improve on) and one PP (Praise Point - something the student was doing well or a compliment). I believe it's important for students to be encouraged by things they are already doing correct, while choosing one small thing to improve on.

After the week is over, I use the second page in this product to REFLECT on trends I'm noticing from my whole class. I may notice that 8 of my 25 students struggled with punctuation. In this case, I would plan to pull a small group of students to review punctuation rules the following week in my Writer's Workshop. I may also record some Praise Points on my reflection page to brag on my students and to track progress.

**These "conferences" do not take the place of my guided reading or writing groups. These 1:1 meetings are short, sweet, and only take a minute or two.
