Structures and Forces Complete UNIT

In this unit students will learn about the following:

• Natural vs Man-Made structures
• Frame, Shell and Solid structures (with a structure hunt in their community)
• Center of Gravity and how this affects structures
• Internal forces on structures
• External forces on structures
• A short reading activity with comprehension questions
• A famous structural failure to research and answer questions about
• Structural strength
• Structural stability
• Paper bridge challenge for strength and stability
• Final project combining all elements of the unit into a design challenge

This is a comprehensive science unit for middle year students. This is very low prep for teachers and includes all marking rubrics and evaluations needed. There is an easy to follow PowerPoint presentation to display student notes, as well as an interactive notebook which follows directly along with the presentation. There is also an end of unit project to help evaluate students on their knowledge of the unit.

This unit includes all teacher notes necessary to teach a successful unit, as well as answer keys and rubrics for marking and evaluating projects.
