What educators are saying

Beautifully presented & very well organised. It will save you hours creating your own slides / resources to support teaching the unit. It also comes with a bonus teacher guide.
An incredible visual resource to help students with the new curriculum. Also very helpful for myself as the teacher to use along with the new syllabus.

    Description

    This is a HUGE 500+ page bundle of resources, designed to support the implementation of the NESA Unit based on the Wave Hill Walk-Off in your Stage 3 classroom.

    This unit of work is freely available on the NESA site. This set of resources contains everything you need to supplement this unit. Simply put, it is weeks and weeks of lesson prep - sorted!

    The first bundle is a supporting slideshow which means it is linked to the Department of Education (NSW) unit of work which teaches Stage 3 students about genre and hybrid texts. All the corresponding lessons are included in the slideshow, meaning this is a complete no-prep resource, when used in conjunction with the lesson guide.

    Slides are full-colour, engaging and fun, whilst also encapsulating all the key concepts of the unit, so you don't need to cross-reference or produce these yourself. Slides are organised by week and presented in PDF format so that formatting is consistent.

    *Please read the product listing carefully so you are clear on the specifics of this product. It is a PDF, not a PowerPoint. It also doesn't involve all the elements of Component A, but is based on the framework of Component B. Check out the preview for more detail :)

    This unit of work focuses on narrative, but also includes multiple mini-lessons which can be used across multiple types of text:

    * genre

    * authenticity when researching

    * vocabulary (this is focused on throughout the unit, specifically Tier 2 and Tier 3 words)

    * captions in informative texts

    * context

    * perspective

    * hybrid texts

    * yarning circles

    * accurate research

    * informative and objective language

    * adjectival clauses

    * nominalisation

    * appositives

    Assessment tasks are embedded throughout the unit, with assessment opportunities highlighted. The culmination of the unit is a formal writing task based on science fiction prompts.

    The second bundle contains multiple supporting resources and printables.

    This unit is based on the Stage Three History unit "Australia as a Nation", which requires students to explore the struggle of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People for rights and freedoms. This unit also incorporates Geography outcomes for Stage 3 as well.

    Students will explore three mentor texts, which are all linked to this topic, particularly the events surrounding the Wave Hill Walk-Off and Vincent Lingiari. The three mentor texts are:

    * Freedom Day by Rosie Smiler, Thomas Mayor and Samantha Campbell

    * Somebody's Land by Adam Goodes, Ellie Laing and David Hardy

    * From Little Things, Big Things Grow (song) by Kev Carmody and Paul Kelly

    Students explore these texts in shared reading time and then use this content, as well as their own research to complete an informative text about one of the following issues:

    * the Stolen Generations

    * the right for Indigenous people to vote federally in 1962

    * the 1967 Referendum

    * the Mabo decision

    Students explore these texts as part of in-depth shared reading lessons, focussing on skills such as comprehension, author purpose, vocabulary, imagery and many more.

    Included in this unit of work is:

    * all syllabus outcomes, both ACARA and NESA, in both English and HASS/HSIE

    * 26 literacy circle task cards, designed to be completely independent and no-prep, based on the three mentor texts

    * all associated printables and resources needed to teach this unit of work

    * a comprehensive, 40-page step-by-step lesson guide containing all the steps for a complete literacy block, including photos and samples from my classroom

    * a HUGE supporting slideshow, including optional mini-lessons which can be used for any informative text

    * full-colour daily oral language prompts, allowing students to "tune in" to the teaching focus each day

    * printable comprehension guides

    * background slideshows to support History teaching on topics such as the Uluru Statement from the Heart and Indigenous Sovereignty

    And much MUCH more!

    This unit of work would culminate with students producing an assessable piece of informative text, for both informative writing and the HASS unit linked to Indigenous Land Rights.

    Your complete literacy block is covered by this unit of work for at least five weeks of learning, from the planning cycle through to assessment.

    I have lots of other Literacy resources in my store (based on Australian content) so feel free to check them out.

    All of my resources are 20% off for the first 48 hours, so be sure to hit the green "follow me" star to be alerted when they drop.

    Happy reading!
