Description
Something different from Valentine’s romance plus engaging nonfiction for any time.
Money-saving bundle of activities for Al Capone and the St. Valentine’s Day Massacre. Several options of different non-fiction based activities. After reading the New York Times Article about the St. Valentine’s Day Massacre, students can complete reading questions, critical thinking questions and/ or graphic organizers. Another option is reading one of two Al Capone articles to evaluate the argument in each. Also included are two options for a Web Scavenger Hunt on Capone. Students can also create an Infographic on Al Capone using the reading and/ or research.
Contents:
- Wanted Poster Activity (Anticipatory Activity #1 or Supplemental Activity): Includes two versions. One version is for people—like Al Capone—or characters. Students will write about the reason the person is wanted. Also includes a get-to-know you activity for students to complete about why they would be wanted—for good reasons like being a good singer or bad reasons for being in trouble. (This is also included in the Back to School ELA Activities Bundle - PDF)
- Al Capone KWL (Anticipatory Activity #2): Great way to begin learning about Al Capone, especially if students are familiar with the 1983 movie Scarface. This is a bundle only item. There is also a St. Valentine’s Day Massacre KWL with the Graphic organizers.
Pair with the KWL Research Project for an engaging, student-lead project!
