Description
Fun brain teaser challenge that utilizes arithmetic skills of measurement in feet and inches, less than, more than, addition & subtraction, so the puzzle is not out of reach for a 5th-grade student, and still challenging for 8th-grade students.
The "Easel Activity" has been created for you - NO PREP - just assign because all of the answer boxes have been created for you and your students! If you find that your students would rather do the solving on paper but you are teaching remotely, have them solve the puzzle on their own scrap paper and then use the digital activity to turn in their answers. Easy-Peasey!
Students are asked to:
~determine how many coins each Leprechaun has and what type of metal each pot made of
~calculate the height of each Leprechaun and determine their vest color
The math isn't the "gatekeeper" here: the emphasis is on using a problem-solving mindset to use the clues given in order to solve the puzzle.
This product is now a part of a bundle here on TpT - the bundle contains two more puzzles that are a bit less complex, and two brand new cryptograms. Still appropriate for middle school students - having a couple of "easier" puzzles is a great way to give students choice and still support the fundamental critical thinking that is required. The less complex puzzles are also great for English Language Learners that might be overwhelmed with too many clues to decipher. You can find the bundle here: St. Patrick's Day Logic Puzzle Bundle
My students love these puzzles! I always keep a few on hand, ready to hand out - they are great for transition time, great when students need enrichment or something to do while other students finish their work. I also include them in emergency sub plans because they can be done with very little guidance - they just require persistence on the part of students :)
I also have other types of logic puzzles here on TpT. While my teaching area is science, I have created general interest puzzles for a wide range of age groups and interests. Examples of the topics are Sports, Earth Day, Valentine's, and Winter Olympics. You can see them all here:
