Description

Young children should practice cutting with scissors everyday.

Cutting practice is essential "training" for their young minds & bodies; and luckily for parents & teachers, this is an activity that most children LOVE to do.

The key is to find fun opportunities to integrate cutting practice into children's daily routines.

We've designed a set of 25 Spring-Themed Scissor Skills Projects to help you reach the ideal of "daily scissor practice".

Kids will be asked to color a worksheet, cut out the easy shapes, and then assemble their cut outs to look like an example.

There are MANY skills being practice with this seemingly simple (& fun) "Craftivity"- which means its perfect to use in just about any setting- home, school, vacation, etc.

Skills Developed with Scissor Practice:

>Builds "Handwriting Muscles"
Cutting allows a child to build up the tiny muscles in the palm of their hand with the continuous open and close of the hand.

>Improves Eye-Hand Coordination
In order to use scissors effectively, children have to use their vision, process what is seen, and move their hands to accomplish a task.

>Improves Bilateral Coordination
This means that cutting uses both sides of the body at the same time while each hand is performing a different task.

>Introduces Concept of "Tripod Fingers"
Cutting requires a child to use their thumb, forefinger, and middle finger together, the same “finger team” required to properly hold a pencil for good handwriting.

>Improves Spatial Reasoning
Once kids cut out their pieces, they have to “assemble” their puzzle craft like the example shown.

>Builds Confidence
Working with scissors is a skill that improves quickly with practice. The more children are asked to cut with scissors, the better they get. Watch as kids FEEL & SEE improvement in this area within a short time= major confidence booster!
