Description
Do you find it difficult to partner students for cooperative learning? Do they always choose the same person or someone seated near them?
Enhance your class dynamic with this exciting sports-themed grouping chart designed for partnered activities throughout the year. This "appointment clock" activity featuring various sports is perfect for the initial days of class when students are still acquainting themselves with each other's names. There are both color and BW copies for printing.
To utilize this chart as an icebreaker, instruct students to find a partner for each sport while also posing a personal question to their newfound partner. You will find copies of the chart with and without icebreaker questions included. At the end of the icebreaker, encourage students to share what they learned about their partners.
To implement these pairings, simply inform the students which sport-partner group they will be working with for an activity and have them check the chart to identify their respective mates. If students are absent, pair the remaining solos or form a trio.
For an extended version of this pairing activity, consider the "speed-dating" option. There is an editable document in Google Slides™ that you may use. When students have assignments comprising 10 or fewer components such as review questions or grammar exercises, they will engage in timed partner settings. For instance, #1 FOOTBALL partner will have 1 minute to form a group and 3 minutes to answer a question, followed by #2 SOCCER partner, and so on. This approach not only allows students to stay active during class but also provides an opportunity for diverse perspectives to emerge while fostering collaborative teamwork.
Enjoy the fun and interactive learning experience with your students using this sports-themed grouping chart!
