Speech Assignment / Oral Presentation - PEER-FEEDBACK FORM

This is a great way to keep the audience engaged in student-presentations, but also allow the audience to provide meaningful feedback to students. What did they do well? What does the audience want to see more of? How many times did they unknowingly say "Ummm," "Ahhhh," or "So..."

Contained herein: The same form with very slight modifications: One for "Oral Presentations" and the other for "Speech Assignment." Each of those, however, has two formats: One per page (usually I use this for the younger grades), and Two per page (cut down the middle to save paper), which I use for the older grades.

I usually tell students that I look for honest-feedback and, if they provide it, they receive contributions marks. This keeps them accountable and trying in earnest to provide authentic feedback. Often, I will also tell the lower grades that the best piece of useful feedback gets a prize. (A little bribery never hurt... and often I end up saying that everyone did so well, they get 5 minutes of free time at the end of class!)

Anyways, this is a handout that can be doled out for any presentation/speech in any subject, even science or P.E. Students often like to get the originals back to go through all the comments. When I have "Newsflash Fridays" each week, I find that the quality of the presentations go up over the course of the semester, due in no small part because of these peer-feedback forms. The studies are in: Students often value and take to heart peer-feedback over teacher-feedback. So let them share their ideas! Usually, I find that students are bang-on with their assessments, too.
