Spanish Dia de la Acción de Gracias Lesson Materials

I created these Reading Comprehension practice activities as a way to generate and maintain students' interest in reading while still observing the Thanksgiving.

This bundle of materials includes:

1. A fun cover image that can be displayed as a holiday poster,

2. Two holiday word searches that can be used as warm-ups, bell ringers, brain breaks, or as rewards for students who complete their classwork ahead of the others. Word searches also support sight word recognition when crafted properly.

3. A 3-paragraph, Spanish-language history of the first Thanksgiving. The paragraphs are presented in fill-in-the-blank format and contain a word bank to help students as they read.

4. A paragraph-length Reading activity that provides and overview of the Thanksgiving tradition in the United States and Canada. The activity also provides Reading Comprehension strategies for developing readers and contains 5 questions in short answer format.

There are two versions of this seccond reading activity. In the first version the questions are in Spanish and in the second, the questions are in English for differentiation.

This bundle will be a great addition to your current unit plans and is cross-curricular with reading and social studies. It is also ideal for bilingual or immersion classrooms, as well as for inclusion in your substitute teacher plans.

The readings can be used separately or as part of a larger lesson. Used together, one may be used to teach the reading strategies while the other may serve as a formative assessment or tool for comprehension check.
