Description
This activity is a great way to introduce the solar system while getting students up and moving. After creating their own spaceship, the students will travel around the room to visit the Sun, Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune. The students will paste information about each location into their Space Passport. The Space Passport makes greats notes or study guides.
What's Included:
1 Instruction Page
1 Spaceship
5 Pages for the Space Passport
9 Planet Pages (including the Sun)
9 Information Cutout Pages
Supplies Needed:
Printer Paper
Scissors
Glue/Tape
Stapler
Popsicle Sticks
Crayons/Colored Pencils
Directions:
Before the activity begins, the teacher should have each of the planet pages hanging up around the room. Place enough information cutouts for each student under the correct planet.
The students start by coloring and naming their spaceship. I would recommend cutting out the spaceship and pasting it to a popsicle stick so the students can take it on their journey. Students then cut out and staple all of the pages of their Space Passport to create a book.
The students will then visit each of the planet pages around the room. They will paste the planet information from each location with the correct planet in their Space Passport. They will then color the planets based on the pictures on the planet pages.
When the activity is complete each student will have colored pictures and information of each planet in the solar system. The Space Passports make great notes and study guides.
