Description

This includes 16 printable social scripts for children with social difficulties in the elementary setting. Topics include asking for help, recess, paying attention, working with partners, morning work, and more. These can be used for grades 2-6. These can be implemented by the classroom teacher, special education teacher, paraprofessional, or other support professional.

How to Use

Social scripts are a great way for children to learn routines and how to handle specific situations. They are particularly helpful for children with autism, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), anxiety, Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD), and other students with special needs (Special Education). Of course, ALL learners can benefit from using a social script.

1. Gather one binder per student. This allows each child to have an individualized social scripts binder that is theirs.

2. Allow them to color and design their cover page.

3. Start with one social script. Read the script together and discuss.

4. Have the learner read that script just before that activity. For example, have the student read the Recess script immediately before recess to remind them about positive choices.

5. Keep the binder somewhere that the child can easily access on their own.

6. Prompt the child to use the script as needed. Eventually, the goal is for the child to grab the binder and read the story on their own.

7. Introduce new social scripts, as needed.

Note that an EDITABLE version is now included. This allows you to customize stories, as needed. The editable version is in Powerpoint.

A digital version is also included for Google Slides. Please open the file with "digital directions" in the title to access.
