Description

Included is the materials for a unit I designed for beginner/low intermediate ELD students. It is a thematic unit based around social media with three articles that I edited to match an appropriate Lexile level.

There are word sorting activities (based on parts-of-speech) with key vocabulary from each of the articles. There are also embedded lessons on syntax using Spivey's growing sentences using this key vocabulary. Finally, there are scaffolded writing tasks using sentence starters and Cloze writing tasks that assess a student's use of key vocabulary, the syntax covered by the unit, and the ability to cite relevant details from the reading to support a claim arguing whether or not social media is mostly beneficial or harmful to our society.
