Description

This social living Promethean flipchart teaches students to identify events from the past, present, and future and use terms to describe each. The flipchart opens with 3 pictures - one of a baby, one of a child ages 6-8 (around the age of the targeted audience of the lesson) and one of a grown man. The students must tell the difference between the 3 pictures, which opens into: past, present and future time frames. Next, is a page of daily objectives for the lesson. The lesson then moves toward a timeline - giving children a visual of passing time. First, it discusses the past, gives descriptions of what the past consists of, and asks students some critical thinking questions about the past. Next, the time line does the same things for the present and the future: gives descriptions, visuals and critical thinking questions that go along with each time frame. Next, is a streaming video on the past and present (if your system permits the file - most do) that you may show your class. Next is a great way to strengthen reading strategies - the flipchart gives a story segment containing highlighted words such as "today", "tomorrow", "now", "was a baby", etc. The teacher may permit students to do this activity whole class, in pairs, individually, or groups - in which they must take the highlighted words and decide if that part of the story is referring to the past, present or future (great way to incorporate sequencing!) The last page allows for review and closure of the lesson.
