What educators are saying

My life was much easier when I used these projects for my lit circles. The students love the resources also! What I loved the most was that there were activities that students could do on meeting days. And I could use the prompts as a writing activity on Fridays.

Looking for an engaging social justice literature circle unit? Teach speaking skills, engage students in social justice issues, and encourage collaboration through lit circles with this Black Lives Matter-themed Social Justice Literature Circle Unit Bundle!

This Social Justice Literature Circle Unit Bundle includes material for teaching The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas, Dear Martin by Nic Stone, and All American Boys by Jason Reynolds and Brendan Kiely.

Students will choose one of these three novels to read for the unit. They will complete novel-specific activities (which all align for easy input into your grade book). They will also discuss these novels with their literature circles as they progress.

Students will also choose a social justice topic for an end-of-unit speech project.

After finishing their books, students will engage in a final discussion with their groups about their chosen books' fundamental themes. Students will also present their social justice speech.
