Social Darwinism & the White Man's Burden

This is a guided worksheet that helps student better understand the related, but different concepts of Social Darwinism and the "White Man's Burden." This is great lesson for the beginning of a unit on New Imperialism as it sets up and ingrains important concepts in the minds of students as they go forward. Students respond to the concept of Social Darwinism and then connect to the White Man's Burden by reading an excerpt from Kipling's poem and analyzing a famous political cartoon associated with the concept.
