What educators are saying

My SPED class struggled with this concept. They enjoyed this activity to help them make sense of the concept. Our class was using a 6th grade standard.
I used this as additional practice and it really helped them understand the lesson in a more engaging format. It’s was easy to use and well put together!

Description

Need an engaging way to get students thinking about simple probability events? Grab this card sort and follow-up worksheet with questions!

Here's what's included:

  • Card Sort with 15 events
  • Follow-up worksheet
  • Answer Key

The card sort gives students 15 simple events about rolling dice or drawing a card from a deck of cards.

They think about the theoretical probability and express each answer as a fraction. Then they sort the cards from most likely to least likely.

Afterwards, follow up questions get students thinking deeper about their answers and probabilities.

This is a great activity for partners! You could provide copies of the card sort page, or laminate a class set to save paper and have students use dry erase markers to write on them.

This activity could be used as an intro to see what students know or as a practice exercise during your probability unit.

Answer keys are included.

Understand that the probability of a chance event is a number between 0 and 1 that expresses the likelihood of the event occurring. Larger numbers indicate greater likelihood. A probability near 0 indicates an unlikely event, a probability around 1/2 indicates an event that is neither unlikely nor likely, and a probability near 1 indicates a likely event.
Develop a probability model and use it to find probabilities of events. Compare probabilities from a model to observed frequencies; if the agreement is not good, explain possible sources of the discrepancy.
Develop a uniform probability model by assigning equal probability to all outcomes, and use the model to determine probabilities of events. For example, if a student is selected at random from a class, find the probability that Jane will be selected and the probability that a girl will be selected.
