Simple Machines Review Game - Jeopardy Style Game Show (Science SOL 3.2)

This Simple Machines Review Game includes a fun, Jeopardy-style game to review forces acting on an object, simple machines, and compound machines. Versions of the review game are included for both PowerPoint and Google Slides.

What will students review with this Simple Machines Review Game?

25 questions are included in a Jeopardy-style game to review and practice the following skills:

• Describe the size and direction of forces acting upon an object.
• Identify when a push, pull, or friction is acting on an object.
• Differentiate, classify, and identify examples of the six types of simple machines (lever, inclined plane, wedge, wheel and axle, screw, and pulley).
• Define compound machine.
• Identify which simple machines make a compound machine.

Each question is linked to a slide with the answer so that students can quickly and easily check their answers.

What formats of the game are provided?

This resource includes versions of the Simple Machines Review Game for BOTH PowerPoint and Google Slides. The questions used with each version are the same.

How is this simple machines interactive game played?

The PowerPoint version of this Jeopardy-style game should be played in presentation mode. Category values disappear when they are clicked on. The category values can be reset anytime by exiting the presentation and reopening it. You are able to type scores onto a scoreboard while playing in presentation mode. The presentation has been coded to help you easily navigate from the category board to questions and answers without scrolling.

The Google Slides version of this Jeopardy-style review game should be played in full screen, edit mode. Instructions and a video tutorial are provided that show how this is done. You are able to type scores onto a scoreboard but the category values do not disappear when they are clicked on. This is a limitation of Google Slides. But, markers are provided alongside the category board that you can drag and drop over the category values after they have been used. The presentation has been coded to help you easily navigate from the category board to questions and answers without scrolling.

This Simple Machines Review Game is specifically created to align with the 2018 Virginia Science SOL 3.2 although the questions closely align with most science standards related to simple machines and compound machines.
