Description

Help your students review figurative language with these short stories and poems that include figurative language and can be used for a fun scavenger hunt! This resource includes 12 short stories and 12 poems, each with one type of figurative language. Students identify the figurative language on the provided recording sheet for fun and low prep practice.

The short stories and poems include 6 types of figurative language:

  • similes
  • metaphors
  • personification
  • alliteration
  • hyperbole
  • onomatopoeia

To use this as a scavenger hunt, simply spread the 24 figurative language cards out around the room and have students/partners go on a hunt for them. After finding a card, they read it and record the type of figurative language on it on their recording sheet.

This resource includes:

  • 12 short stories with figurative language
  • 12 short poems with figurative language
  • recording sheet
  • reflection sheet
