Description
This interactive read aloud is a great way to combine Social Studies and Language Arts! Shin-chi’s Canoe is a beautifully illustrated book about one family’s experience with Residential Schools.
What is Included?
• Two Interactive Read Aloud Lessons
• Lesson1 focuses on the forward of the book. This gives students some
background information about Residential Schools.
• Lesson 2 focuses on the rest of the book.
• Each lesson includes suggested prompts for before, during and after reading.
• Prompts include structures such as: Turn and Talk, Stop and Jot, Think Aloud,
Setting a Purpose for Reading, etc.
• These prompts can be printed as a one page document, or on stickie notes.
• An anchor chart activity and a reading response Venn Diagram are also included.
