Shelter Building STEM Challenge

This FREE STEM challenge is designed similarly to the other STEM Challenges in my store. I am offering this one as a free sample so that you can experience the joy of STEM with your students. The “problem” presented in this shelter building challenge was a real life situation that happened to my family and me this summer on a back country hike. We got caught out in a rain storm on a hiking trail and were forced to quickly solve the problem of building a shelter to keep ourselves and our gear dry. Our children were able to help us solve the problem during this situation. Solving real-life problems with the available supplies is an important skill for our students to develop.

In my STEM challenges, students are always presented with a "problem" to solve and are given a limited number of materials to solve the challenge. In each STEM challenge, I incorporate a budget portion of the challenge. Students are forced to make decisions on which items would best solve the problem.
