Hamlet, the Murder Mystery is a great short stage script version of Shakespeare's great tragedy, Hamlet. The action happens in flashback, as Hamlet's best friend, Horatio, is being interviewed by the police - because he's one of the last people standing at the end of the play! During a series of interviews, Horatio tells the police officers the whole story, and how so many people came to die. He also has to convince them that he's not the murderer! The script is totally suitable for students to perform and has been slightly modernised to make it accessible. But many of the original character names, symbolic imagery, themes and essential elements of the original Hamlet story have been retained. It's a great, dramatic, play script for any English class, theatre program, or performing arts club and will provide an effective introduction to Shakespeare. It will also allow some of your stronger young performers to shine.
This script includes fabulous full production notes, with ideas for staging, props and furniture, lighting, sound effects, any music and great ideas for costumes. It also contains great follow-on activities covering story, characters, theme, script layout and performance-related tasks for further work in the classroom or drama studio.
If you are giving a performance of this play to an audience, regardless of whether you charge admission or not, you must purchase the appropriate Performance Rights License, available in this store.
