Did you hear the big news? Ernest Shackleton's ship has been FOUND in Antarctica! Use this highly engaging cross-curricular current event article to support effective reading strategies. This can be used in any ELA class, history class, or science class and students will use 'Close Reading Strategies' to identify key ideas in the article. Students will be engaged in active reading as they discover the extreme conditions that Shackleton's crew faced and what an amazing feat it was to discover a shipwreck in such a remote place, while under such unforgiving conditions. Students will be inspired when they learn how this crew made a major historical find under such adversity, and now researchers have found the vessel where this expedition began. Using Close Reading Strategies to decode the article, students will answer 14 comprehension questions citing specific parts of the text to provide evidence for their answer.
