You can discuss with your class before the PPT what they already know and what they might want to learn about Patriot Day. Then after the PPT have them write about what they learned.

A Day to Remember Writing Page

Primary and regular lined paper. Have students rephrase what they learned from the PPT to write about why September 11th is known as the day to remember.

"A Hero Is" Writing Craftivity

Brainstorming Page/Writing Page. Have your students brainstorm 5 things they think a hero is. (brave, strong, courageous, kind, etc.). Then on the writing page turn their ideas into sentences.

Hero Hats- Have students pick a police, fireman, or Army hat to color and place at the top of their writing page on a piece of colored construction paper. I've included two sizes of the hats for you to choose from. (You can easily cut bands and make these headbands for your students as well!)

Have your students write a thank you card to current policemen, firemen, or military and help them understand how they help them in their community today.
