NOTE: This resource uses American English and is not editable.

This is a differentiated, double set of task cards for helping students understand three types of sentences: simple, compound, and complex. The first 32 cards are multiple-choice and focus on identifying types of sentences. The second set (also 32 cards) requires students to work with the three types of sentences; adding or taking away phrases to change the sentence type, or in some cases, combining sentences or separating them. Students will need to be familiar with independent and dependent clauses, and conjunctions before working with these cards.

Teacher Tip

Here’s what teachers are saying:

✏️ "Highly interactive way to assess students in their understanding of Sentence Types. I passed one card out to each student and had them pass them through the class and write their answers down. They had fun and it was an engaging way for them to practice the skill and for me to assess what needed to be retaught." -Melissa M.

✏️ "I love these. All of your task cards are such quality work. Thank you. For my middle schoolers, I am going to use Set 1 as an early finisher activity and set 2 for writing practice morning work. Thank you for all of the time and effort you put into all of your work. My kids understand the information better with these activities." -Jamie M.

✏️ "Simple, straightforward, and flexible resource that I utilized for a variety of review games. Thanks for the great product!" -Carolyn D.
