Description

Slay back-to-school with our “Get to Know You” social media templates!  Start back on the right track by having your students participate in these activities themed around current social media platforms.  Gaining insight into your students' lives is a crucial component of creating a positive classroom climate and building relationships with those in your class.  Fostering a welcoming environment inevitably yields greater success.  Our “All About Me” activities are designed for upper elementary and secondary students, and have a wide range of tasks for students to complete to help you get to know your new students.

One thing that is undeniable about Generation Z is that they are heavy users of social media.  They are active on social media platforms at all hours of the day, and there’s no stopping that.  So if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em in a safe, controlled environment.  Through the prompts in these activities, you will begin to get a clear picture of who your students are and the types of things they are interested in.  Students will enjoy finishing these assignments because they closely mirror the social media activities they engage in everyday.  This deck has a Teacher Edition available as well located here.

This “See Me on Social #FollowMe” resource provides in-depth activities for students to share details about themselves to build community in the classroom.  Each template provides a different lens through which you can gain insight into your students using a variety of media including text, pictures, and video to spark authentic engagement.  Each of the social media templates have the following number of tasks per template for a total of 35 different tasks/questions:

  • Twitter - Four tasks
  • Snapchat - Five tasks
  • Facebook - Four tasks
  • Instagram - Six tasks
  • Pinterest - Four tasks
  • Spotify - Five tasks
  • Wordpress - One task
  • Google Maps - Six tasks

You can use these slides at the beginning of the year during online classes for distance/blended learning or in a face-to-face classroom.  Each activity can be used on its own as a homework assignment each day during the first two weeks of school.  They can also be used once per week as an in-class activity during the first quarter of the school year.  Students can share their social media slides in small groups or with the entire class.  The focus is on student creation and not just consumption.

This uneditable Google Slides resource can be exported as images and used in any presentation software such as PowerPoint or Keynote.  Each slide has placeholders for text based on the different activities.
