What educators are saying

Description

Are you looking for ways to implement the science of reading best practices into your classroom? The engaging seasonal no prep reading comprehension passages are a great tool to help your students with their literacy development throughout the year with back to school, fall themes, winter, spring, and summer themed passages. These are fully decodable and target phonics skills. These are scaffolded and build on each other from one passage to the next. They start off with CVC reading passages and move all the way up. The covered skills are noted below and in the preview.

There are over 130 different passages combined.

This is actually a bundle that also includes other seasonal resources to use throughout the year. It is over $50 worth of resources that sell individually at The Candy Class for one low price.

When writing things like seasonal passages, these do not include hard words that would be difficult for children to decode at that targeted skill level. Skip the guessing. These are true decodable passages. For example, you will not see the word spring in the CVC readers for kids to guess, but instead find spring themes like bugs for CVC words. Once students have built up to decoding words with blends and glue sounds, spring is a word they will then decode.

In other words, these passages will not lead your kids to guess words that are not either decodable or high frequency words commonly taught by the time that skill is typically introduced. Instead, these will help your students to orthographically map the words in their mind by targeting in on phonics skills they can decode.

There are various options for each different passage, so you can differentiate instruction. The options also enables these to be used easily in kindergarten, first grade, and second grade classrooms since I offer different line options.

The different options are a great way to offer rereads in your classroom that can be used for spiral review.

You can find the scope and sequence that details the skills covered more clearly in the preview that is linked by the cover picture above.

In addition to the no prep decodable seasonal passages, this bundle is actually a give back bundle. This no prep seasonal bundle started off with just the 100th day of School No Prep printable packet that has been a top seller at The Candy Class. As a way to give back, more no prep seasonal items have been added such as these seasonal no prep phonics passages. However, the price of all the individual resources total to over $60 in value, but this resource is much lower as a way to give back. There is over 750 pages included in this bundle.

There are also non-seasonal decodable passages with word work included too!

Make sure to look at the preview to get a better idea of what all is included. The scope and sequence for the spring and summer passages in the preview will go over the skills covered for each passage, but here is a comprehensive round-up of the skills covered by theme too.

About the Author’s Skill to Write These:

These seasonal decodable reading comprehension passages are well written by Jolene Mathew, a children’s author, who is also an experienced primary teacher with over a decade of experience in the educational field who has stayed current in her professional development with following the science of reading best practices and has been a life-long writer since the age of ten. She started creating phonics resources in 2013 and can be found making up silly rhymes with her son all the time. She has written over a hundred decodable books and passages for The Candy Class and another technical educational company. She says she now catches herself rewording her social media posts to be decodable these days because it has become so embedded in her thinking when she writes. That just goes to show how much skill she has developed with writing decodables that it has become an automatic way of writing for her.

These decodable passage activities will help your students to develop their reading skills.

One final note: The 100th Day of School Resource includes both a printable and digital options in Google Slides, and PowerPoint. However, the other resources are all in printable format only. Also, to abide by the clip artist's terms of use, the PDFs are secured. Also, the winter, back to school, and fall packets are set up differently than the spring and summer passages. However, they are all scaffolded and build up on each other.
