Science Safety Rules & Contract

This Science Safety Contract includes:

1. Student contract (to be signed by each student and his/her parent or guardian)

2. Print-out of the Science Safety Rules that can be copied and inserted into each student’s notebook for easy reference.

3. Tips and background information to help you utilize this important tool in your classroom.


A Note from Teresa

Science Safety is the first priority of every good science teacher. Students are not permitted do any labs in my classroom until I have their signed Science Safety contract on file. The one exception to this is when I have a new student who starts on a lab day. In this situation, I pair them up with a student who I trust to make good, safety-driven decisions.

I like my students to have a copy of the Science Safety Student Contract in their science notebooks, so I print the first page of the contract out on half sheets. We’ve formatted our Science Safety Student Contract document to print two per page. You’ll simply need to print the document and cut it in half. (There are appropriate crop marks on the document to guide you.) Therefore, you’ll print half as many copies as the number of students in your class. Students glue the contract into their notebooks and refer to it throughout the year, as needed.

I spend the first two weeks of school on science safety to really make sure students have a solid foundation in this important area.
