What educators are saying

Easy to use resource for working on identifying sarcasm. I utilize this as an additional resource during social skills lessons with my autistic support students.
I love that the activity requires students to differentiate between being serious or sarcasm. This area is often confusing for upper grade level students

Description

Is it sarcasm, or is it serious? Social skills scenarios and social pragmatic language activities related to teens and older students in the form of BOOM CARDS. Students make social inferences about whether a spoken statement is an example of sarcasm or not. Using real-life pictures, students are provided with a written social scenario and then a verbal statement. Using the clues in the scenario (textual information), the clues in the picture, and information about what THEY already know about similar situations/THEIR own personal experiences, students will then make a ‘smart guess’ about whether the presented verbal statement is either serious or sarcastic.

For each social example, whether it is an example of sarcasm or serious, students will then be provided with a series of questions that will allow them to look at the statement (and the available social clues) to understand just WHY (or why not) there is evidence of sarcasm in the response.

Where sarcasm is used, students will then be provided with the opportunity to state what the sarcasm REALLY means.

This is SET 2 (of 2 sets) of my ‘Is it Sarcasm or is it serious’ BOOM CARDS set for TEENS.

This particular set contains 84 BOOM CARDS that encompasses 31 different social scenarios (2-3 Boom per scenario).

SET 1 can be found here: Sarcasm or serious social language digital activities for teens BOOM CARDSâ„¢ SET1

I have also made this product (both SET 1 and SET 2) in Google Slides format for those that prefer not to use BOOM.
