    Description

It is so exciting to offer you a chance to grab a STEM bundle of these fun tower challenges. All three of these towers use unusual materials or have interesting constraints for the task. The best news is- students adore these projects! You will, too!

NOTE: All three of these challenges are available separately and in many other bundles. This bundle is the only place you can grab all three of them together! Visit the individual pages of each resource to see the alternative bundles you can try!

    What are the challenges?

    Bucket Towers

    • This STEM Challenge featuring a bucket has turned out to be one of our favorites and your students will love it, too!
    • This challenge is to build a tower (although not a very tall one) that will hold weight.
    • Students have the goal of suspending a “bucket” within the tower and that bucket must hold weight.
    • The best part is listening to groups explain why their towers need a bucket.

    The package specifically includes:

    • Teacher background
    • Materials and preparation page
    • 6 pages of teacher directions
    • 2 versions of the constraints list
    • 3 pages of photographs
    • 2 versions of the lab sheet
    • Terms of Use
    • In addition, the challenge includes a scoring rubric and an editable file.

    Tennis Ball Towers

    • This STEM challenge features the task of using given supplies to design and build a tower.
    • Specific criteria for the tower include supporting an object a specific height off the table and using ALL the supplies.
    • The supplies needed are very simple and easy to gather. Stand back and watch them construct!

    The package specifically contains:

    • Teacher Background,
    • 1-page Materials and Prep list
    • 5 pages of Teacher directions with helpful hints
    • Set of Criteria cards for students (with and without background color)
    • Full-page display of the task constraints
    • Lab Sheet
    • Folding Graphic Organizer page with a photo page of folding instructions
    • 4 pages of Tower Photos with more details
    • Scoring rubric
    • Bonus Alternative version with a prep page, a criteria cards page, and 2 pages of photos, Terms of Use. All forms are editable.

    Spaghetti Towers

    • This a tower-building event using the unlikeliest of materials- spaghetti and one marshmallow.
    • Just how tall and skinny can you make this tower and still support the weight of that one object?

    Included:

    • This package is jam-packed full of teacher directions, lab sheets, hints, and photos. The original challenge includes two versions of lab sheets.
    • This challenge pack now contains 2 bonus lessons! Check the preview to see the Bell Tower Challenge. It is very similar to the Spaghetti Challenge but is a challenge you can use especially at Christmas time. Directions, helpful hints, constraints, lab sheets, and photos of the Bell Tower are all now included.
    • There is also a Blueprint Version of the challenge which includes special directions, hints, photos, constraints, and lab sheets. A separate file contains Scoring Rubrics that can be used for the many versions.
    • And, what if you are like me and forget to buy the marshmallows? I added a page of photos and tips for using an alternative to the marshmallow that was really challenging and added a new problem to solve!

This a fun design challenge and is, by far, the activity my lab students most request to do again!

Each of these challenges may be purchased separately. Each is also included in different bundles. Be sure you check the individual listings and take a look at the previews!
