STEM: Forces & Motion Newton’s Laws Writing Prompts and Task Cards

Assess students’ understanding of Newton’s Laws of Motion with this set of writing prompts and task cards that provide practice for your students at various levels of ability. Perfect for use as bell ringers, small group discussions, science centers, exit questions, homework, or as enrichment for early finishers.

16 short scenarios with writing prompts. Each card includes a photograph fitting the situation. The scenarios involve the concepts of force, motion, acceleration, inertia, and momentum. Students will read and respond to the prompts using scientific reasoning and vocabulary. Each prompt is designed to be used as a quick writing activity that students will enjoy while practicing important writing skills in the science content area.

20 task cards with one multiple choice question for students to answer. Print these 4/page, laminate, and use over and over. Use as an informal assessment at the end of a lesson. Place around the room and allow students to play “SCOOT” as a review before the test.

Possible responses for each writing prompt are included as a reference for the teacher, although individual student responses will vary. Task card recording sheets and an answer key are provided for task cards.
