What educators are saying

I use these as reward activities. It is a great way to reward kids because they think they are playing but they are actually learning. They work hard and having appropriate behavior to get to do these activities. They don't even realize they are learning.

    Description

Let's build a tower! This package contains six STEM Challenges featuring Towers. Each tower has unique features and your students will love them all! You will love the detailed teacher's guides and editable student forms:)

This bundle contains six challenges featuring Tower Building. These are available separately and as part of other bundles. The individual products include:

STEM Challenge: Build a Tower with Spaghetti

    • Students use spaghetti and a few simple supplies to construct the tallest tower possible.
    • The trick is to get the heaviest item atop the tower and keep that tower standing up!
    • It’s a classic tower-building challenge with the package’s added features of detailed directions, helpful hints, and photos.
    • Also, this file includes a Bell Tower and a Spaghetti Tower that uses a blueprint and scoring rubric.

STEM Challenge: Build a Tower with Toothpicks

    • Students will be designing and constructing a tower made with only two supplies.
    • Students will jump into the task with a little planning and then quickly discover they need to modify constantly. Their failures will teach them what to do next!
    • This activity will be fun and full of learning!
    • This file includes a version that uses marshmallows, blueprints, and scoring rubrics.

STEM Challenge: Build a Tower with Index Cards

    • Students will be designing and constructing a tower made with two supplies.
    • They will have to work together and revise constantly. Their initial thinking will be challenged as they see their efforts collapse (literally) and then they will go back to the drawing board.
    • This includes a Christmas challenge also!

    STEM Challenge Tennis Ball Towers

    • Students will design and build a tower that must support an object at a specific height and they must use ALL the supplies.
    • The supplies needed are very simple and easy to gather.
    • Stand back and watch them construct!

    STEM Challenge Satellite Dish Towers

    • Students will build a tower that will hold a satellite dish aloft. The tower does not need to be a specific height but must hold the dish aloft and the satellite dish must resemble one.
    • Also, the satellite dish must rotate in some way to be moved to receive a “signal”.
    • Here’s the twist: Each group will be divided into two parts. One part will receive the supplies for the satellite dish while the other will receive the supplies for the tower.
    • At some point, the two teams within the group must work together to assemble the entire structure. It’s a fabulous feat of collaboration!

    STEM Challenge Water Towers

    • Students will build a tower that will hold a cup of water aloft. The tower must be a specific height and the water container must rest at the top, but be unrestrained.
    • When the tower is stable, water is added and the tower must remain standing for a specified time.
    • And, to make this activity interesting, we added a budget feature to building the tower.
    • Students must “shop” for their supplies using a price list and they must stay within the budget constraints you set!

Also, these challenges are available in bundles of three:
