    Description

If you are looking for STEM Challenges that feature TEAMWORK, I have the perfect bundle for you! This collection of 6 challenges has unique qualities in each STEM activity that encourages team-building in different ways. You will love the teacher's guides and easy prep of this money-saving bundle.

NOTE: Each challenge is available individually and each is included in different bundles.

    What are the challenges?

The six challenges include 2 tower activities, an egg drop, a rolling car, a bridge, and a rescue. It's a great variety of STEM projects your students will love!

    More Details:

    Index Card Towers

    • This STEM activity will have your students designing and constructing a tower made with one or two supplies.
    • They must work together and revise constantly.
    • Their initial thinking will be challenged as they see their efforts collapse (literally) and then they will go back to the drawing board.
    • Simple materials and a 9-page teacher's guide.
    • TEAMWORK: Students will need to work together to create this precarious tower and keep it standing.

    Water Towers

    • This challenge is to build a tower that will hold a cup of water aloft.
    • The tower must be a specific height and the water container must rest at the top, but unrestrained.
    • When the tower is stable, water is added and the tower must remain standing for a specified amount of time.
    • The challenge also features the use of a budget.
    • Easy prep and a 7-page teacher's guide.
    • TEAMWORK: Students must work to "purchase" the correct materials to create the tower. It seems simple, but this fun tower is challenging.

    Simple Egg Drop

    • In this challenge, students will use straws, tape, some cushioning materials, and some creative thinking to make a very simple egg drop device.
    • This will not be a drop made from a high place, but only from a 3-foot height.
    • Students will still have to be very clever in the design since the egg cannot pop out or hit the floor too hard. We want those eggs to survive even if it is a little fall.
    • This is a great little variation of an egg drop that can be completed in one class session!
    • Easy prep and a 6-page teacher's guide.
    • TEAMWORK: Students must work in smaller teams to create the cushioning and container that will save that egg!

    Build a Car

    • This STEM challenge is a car-building experience.
    • Students have specific supplies and must design a car that rolls.
    • They must work together to use the supplies in a creative way.
    • Their thinking will truly be tested as they encounter problems to solve.
    • The choices they make of the materials and how to use them are the heart of this challenge.
    • Includes an 11-page teacher's guide.
    • TEAMWORK: teams will likely split into a design team and a wheel team. That tricky axle needs a lot of work!

    Easy Bridges with Straws

    • In this challenge, students will have images of four kinds of bridges, a bunch of straws, some tape, and the challenge of building the bridge and being creative in using the one material they have!
    • The 4 bridges are very different and the challenge is to build a model that closely resembles a real-life bridge.
    • Easy prep and a 6-page teacher's guide.
    • TEAMWORK: It takes the entire team to create a bridge that will hold weight and cross the gap for this bridge. Most teams will divide into 2 parts to design the bridge and fun accessories (like fishermen).

    Rescue Devices

    • Students will be designing and creating either a rescue cranking device or a rescue carrier using the same supplies.
    • Each task has its own requirements.
    • The rescue cranking device group will be partnered with a carrier group to combine the two structures into a rescue method to retrieve cargo from the bottom of a “cliff”.
    • Easy prep and a 6-page teacher's guide.
    • TEAMWORK: This is the ultimate team-building activity. Two teams build half of a structure and then join the parts to create a rescue device.

    Each challenge specifically contains:

    • Teacher Background
    • Materials and Preparation page
    • 6-11 pages of Teacher Step-by-Step Directions
    • Helpful Hints
    • 3-5 pages of photos
    • Task constraints to display
    • Lab sheets
    • Sample answers of lab sheets
    • Scoring rubric
    • All forms are provided in an editable format.
