Description
Do your students like mysteries? This STEM Challenge will be an exciting adventure for them! Students have a mystery to solve with what they are building and what materials they will need to be successful!
What is the challenge?
In this challenge, students will be assigned a structure to build and a list of possible materials. Teams will have to work together to choose the right materials to build their structure and stay within a purchasing budget for those materials. To make it really fun, every team will build something different.
You have choices to make!
- You have the option to have all teams build the same thing- which makes this challenge packet last a long time!
- Each team will be given a challenge card with the type of structure being built and then the team will decide what materials will build it best.
- There are 6 challenge cards!
What are the structures?
Students will be using Challenge cards that give them specific constraints for building either: Bridges, Towers, Rockets, Swing sets, Marble Runs, or Rocking Chairs.
What do you need?
- You will need supplies in addition to this package.
- This includes craft sticks, paper clips, rubber bands, cardboard tubes, cups, straws, craft foam, foil in 12-inch lengths, toothpicks, pipe cleaners, card stock, masking tape, small bowls, pennies, markers, marbles, small toy figure (like a Lego man), and Cconstruction paper scraps.
- NOTE: These are optional items and you may substitute for any of them with materials you already have!
