1) Word Practice: 10 new concept words (short e)

2) Sentence Practice: 4 decodable sentences (short e)

3) Story Practice: 1 decodable story with 4 reading comprehension questions (short e)

Word Practice:

10 new concept words:

• Blending board with a black dot underneath each letter (grapheme). Students can use their finger to blend the decodable short e words.

• Rapid word chart with new concept words (short e). Used to practice automatic word recognition.

Sentence Practice:

4 concept decodable sentences:

• Sentence pyramids which allows students repeated practice of words in the decodable sentence. The sentences build upon each word.

• Sentence blending (scaffolded)
  • Level Practice 1- Black dots underneath each word. Students can use their finger to blend the sentence together.
  • Level Practice 2- Arrows underneath the entire sentence. Students can use their finger to trace the arrow to blend the sentence together.
  • Level Practice 3- Sentence with no visual cues. Students can read these sentences with success because of their previous repeated practice.

Story Practice:

1 decodable story that contains practice of concept words (short e):

• The story is reading skill appropriate- it contains mostly only letter/sounds that the student has already learned, with minimal sight words. Students should be able to read the story independently.

• Reading comprehension questions are included as an add-on. Teachers can choose to include or not include these questions. These questions ask literal comprehension and inferential comprehension questions.
