    Description

How can you possibly fit in all the Greek and Latin root words, prefixes and suffixes your students need to know? Use this full-year "root word of the day" plan to teach over 140 Latin and Greek root words and affixes (plus a few common ones from Old English) by focusing on one root, prefix, or suffix each day with one word study slide built in each seek for practice deciphering real vocabulary words. Teaching Greek and Latin root words has never been easier!

This bundle includes the following resources:

    • Greek and Latin Roots Daily Bellringers
    • Greek and Latin Roots Weekly Quizzes

    You'll receive:

    • 180 days of bellringer PowerPoint slides (one root, prefix, suffix, or practice word each day)
    • 36 weekly worksheets containing four roots/affixes and one practice word
    • 36 weekly quizzes covering the same roots, affixes, and practice word
    • Answer keys
    • Google Slides versions of all slides, worksheets, and quizzes

My students LOVE finding out the root word of the day, and they get super excited to raise their hands and suggest other words with the root in them. I highly recommend having a Google window open during the bellringer activities, since students will undoubtedly call out words not on the list. You can easily search "etymology of __" to discover whether the word in question really relates to the root. They love it when I look up their words, and we've learned a ton of fascinating things about word origins!

By the end of the year, your students will have been introduced to and interacted with over 140 Greek and Latin (and Old English, too!) roots and affixes, and their word analysis skills will grow in preparation for any end-of-year testing. Most importantly, they will learn to figure out unfamiliar words in their own reading.

Roots and affixes are my all-time favorite ELA topic to teach, and I hope your students get as much fun and learning out of these daily vocabulary activities as mine have!
