Description

In this activity, students will use a die to pick various

items to include in their lunch. Each item has a price attached to it.

In part 1, students will pick a meal, side, and drink. Then, they will calculate the total cost of these items. There may be some, but very little, carrying when adding these numbers.

In part 2, students will pick a dessert in addition to a meal, side, and drink. Then, students will add all four items together. In this part, carrying will be involved.

In part 3, students can use the totals they have calculated before and subtract them from the cash given to the cashier to find their change. Students will practice borrowing during this part.

Great activity for centers, small groups, and differentiated instruction. When a student is ready for the next level, provide the appropriate part for them.
