What educators are saying

My students LOVED this activity. We used it at the end of our types of matter activity to explore gasses in a tangible way. The recording sheets were clear and easy for students to follow and use. The pictures are great for diverse levels of learners.

Description

Rockets and Rovers Engineering Lab Book
60-90 min. STEM lab

Engineer a rocket that will take us to Mars! In teams, students will be challenged to design a rocket that flies either with AlkaSeltzer and water or baking soda and vinegar (or another acid-base reaction like citric acid, baking soda, and water). Teams will be on a budget and have the option to petition the class for more money - but only if they present a good argument for the benefits of the science that will be produced on their journey.

The lab book walks students through the process, has space to record observations, engineering design ideas, and conclusions they come to! Get supporting activities for this lab here!

This pack includes:
•Student lab book (60-90 minutes)
•Slides in PDF and PPT of fun STEM motivating comic
•Key
•Teacher guides

Check out our preview to see the creativity and thoughtfulness put into the lab book! We also have free downloads for a few connecting pieces in the activity bundle so you can try them out.

Download a free programmable paper rover activity
Download a free imaging resolution activity

Interested in learning imaging and binary while you are on Mars? We have Imaging and Binary activities and an Imaging and Resolution lab book available! These items have a recreation of the first image NASA received of Mars for kids to color by hand!

My aim is to help teachers feel prepared to teach science. We have put together videos for many of these activities for teachers to get a quick overview of projects, learn talking points and more!
