What educators are saying

I enjoyed using these as bell ringers while doing a full unit on copyright with my music students. Gave them food for thaught as they were using samples to guide their own in class music making.

Description

In this fun, student-engaging lesson spanning about 1 hour and 45 minutes (can be broken up into multiple lessons) students will get to be in a jury as they examine some of the most famous music copyright cases in music history. In this lesson, students will learn the rules of music copyright, study a wide variety of songs, create justifications for their reasoning of their verdict, and ultimately see what a court decided for each case. This fun and engaging lesson addresses both a music standard and a social studies skill practice. NOTE: while this lesson can be taught from middle school up, I have given warnings in some slides that after about 1 minute of some songs there is possible cursing so you may only want to play about 30 seconds or so, but most songs are clean all the way through!
