Description

Revolutionary War | Revolutionary War Activity | Revolutionary War Project

Bring argument writing and speaking to your history classroom! This activity is aligned to multiple Common Core writing and speaking & listening standards.

The Revolutionary War is a prime example of history that is still up for debate. By researching both sides of contentious events relating to the Revolutionary War, students will gain a better understanding of these events as a whole. This activity provides an excellent broader lesson on the importance of analyzing multiple perspectives relating to historic events. Both writing and speaking elements are incorporated, providing students multiple outlets to illustrate their understandings of key topics. Students will begin by writing an argument essay in which they defend their assigned position. Next, students follow a modified Lincoln-Douglas debate format as they defend their position in pairs.

You'll receive:

A detailed lesson plan with rationale and instructions and a rubric to assist you in assessing your student debates.
