Response to Intervention (RTI): Introduction Presentation & Teacher Checklist

These two (2) Introductory Presentations provide teachers with an overview of how we support struggling students, which for us in New Jersey, includes the I&RS (Intervention and Referral Service) Committee Process and RTI Model.

Included are:

• RTI PowerPoint Presentation
• I&RS PowerPoint Presentation
• Intervention Checklist for Teachers

Teachers will better understand how both the RTI and I&RS Team Process works, be better prepared for the meeting, and become empowered as teachers to participate in both purposeful and meaningful problem-solving discussions about student concerns.

Also included is an overview defining the differences between student modifications and accommodations, as they relate to requests for assistance. After viewing these presentations, teachers will be better equipped to articulate their concerns about struggling students, be better versed on how to document relevant information, and be able to participate in both meetings and discussions more effectively.

Also is included a "Teacher Intervention Checklist," designed to assist teachers with organizing and documenting interventions being used in the classroom for struggling students. Interventions are categorized by the following:

• Content/Material Interventions

• Instructional Interventions

• Organizational Interventions

• Assessment Interventions

• Behavioral Interventions

This resource will assist teachers with communicating their concerns, documenting assistance provided, and developing instructional and supportive materials as part of an RTI action plan.

We've used these PowerPoint Presentations to in-service staff on procedures and expectations for this RTI approach. We've also used the presentation before parent teacher conferences, to assist teachers with communicating effectively with parents and/or guardians.
