Grade 7 Writing Level 3:

Grade 8 History Creating Canada Level 4:

{N} thoroughly assesses the importance of various internal and external factors that played a role in the creation of the Dominion of Canada and the expansion of its territory. {P} assesses with precision the impacts that limitations with respect to legal status, rights, and privileges had on First Nations, Métis, and Inuit individuals and communities as well as settler/newcomer groups in Canada between 1850 and 1890. {N} applies critical thinking skills to formulate questions to guide investigations into perspectives of different groups and communities on some events, developments, and issues that affected Canada and people between 1850 and 1890, and then expertly gathers, organizes, interprets, and draws conclusions from a variety of primary sources assessed for credibility to communicate results using appropriate vocabulary and formats. {P} distinguishes and explains key factors that contributed to the establishment of the residential school system as well as the impacts on Indigenous peoples. {N} identifies a variety of significant individuals and groups and instances of cooperation and conflict along with key political, legal, social, and economic changes that occurred in and/or affected Canada, and thoroughly explains the impacts on Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities and contributions to heritage and identities in Canada.
