Description

This game is always a hit and can transform any review into an engaging, competitive activity. This adds movement and collaboration to the classroom!

Setup:
Project the relay race board and movable pawns (geometric shapes) on a SMARTBoard. Take any test/quiz review, or worksheet and put the questions on flashcards. Divide the class into teams of 2 - 4 students and assign each team a shape to use as a pawn. Pick one student in each team to be a "runner".

Rules:
The "runner" will grab a question from the pile of flashcards at the front of the room and return to his/her group. The group will work together to answer the question. The "runner" will check the answer with the teacher (or on a solution key) and run to the SMARTBoard to move their pawn around the track. First team to make one loop (or two or three - you decide) wins! You can make additional rules at your discretion such as, move one tile back if a solution is incorrect.

I was pleasantly surprised by how much my students enjoyed this game! They got really into racing other teams around the track, and were motivated to work quickly and accurately. The running to the board and back also adds a level of excitement to the room. Get ready for a high-energy activity that is quick and easy to prep for!
