Rebus of the Day

Rebus Puzzles are a great way to expand your students thinking and to encourage students to look at problems in a different way. In my classroom we do a "Rebus of the Day" and students write their answers on slips of paper and hand in. At the end of the day, I announce the answer and a student explains how to solve it. I have them printed and pasted onto 6" x 6" squares of cardstock from a craft store and laminated for durability.

Ideas and tips for use:
1. Print, cut out and glue onto colored paper or print on cardstock and cut into flashcards.
2. Use at a learning center or as a “puzzle of the week/day” activity.
3. Some of the puzzles are idioms, discuss the meaning and challenge students to use in their writing.
4. Some of the puzzles use Greek and Latin roots, such as bi, tri, and micro. Discuss the meaning of these roots and other words that have these roots as well.
5. Some puzzles may take students longer to solve, don't give in- let them figure it out!
