This minilesson is about Marco Polo, the seventeen year old boy, who traveled to mysterious, distant lands in the far east. In their 13th century travels, the Polos befriended Kublai Khan, one of the most powerful men in the world. When they returned home to Italy after twenty-four years, many people did not recognize them. Luckily, Marco Polo recorded his adventures in a book. Some say Marco Polo made up most of those adventures. Others have checked his facts and believe that many of them are true.
Your students will learn history and enjoy this exciting biography at the same time. The informational text is approximately two pages long. You also get two color pictures, one of Marco Polo and one of Kublai Khan. There are 20 multiple choice questions included. The reading comprehension skills that the questions assess are: main ideas, details, cause-effect, make inferences, draw conclusions, and vocabulary. Since the questions are patterned after those found on standardized tests, the lesson can also be considered a test prep. An answer key is included.
