Establishing a Purpose for Reading

The main focus of this activity is to have students understand the importance of having a purpose established beforehand for reading. Students will hopefully understand that having a purpose will allow them to focus on the important information. This is especially the case with informational text.

Main Ideas and Details Activity

The main objective for this activity is to get your students up and moving to engage them while learning about how to identify the main idea and supporting details. In the end, this activity will help build a stronger understanding of the key components needed to write an effective non-fiction summary.
