Description
Taking “status of the class” and recording anecdotal reading notes during independent reading time is one of my favorite parts of the school day.
This is a time when I conduct a mini-conference with each child...
- a time to record what they are reading
- to celebrate accomplishments
- to ask questions
- to ask about home reading
- to make book recommendations
- for other students to hear about books other students are reading

The entire process takes less than 10 minutes but gives me a HUGE amount of information that helps me guide instruction and helps students reflect on their own reading behaviors and goals.
